Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology.
The primary objective of our curriculum is to prepare you to have a successful career in the field of applied electrical and computer engineering. We鈥檝e tailored this curriculum to stay abreast of the growing requirements for competency skills in engineering technology as they apply to the disciplines of electrical, electronics, and computer hardware/computer software engineering. Our courses emphasize practical applications that employ both scientific theory and practical principles. As you pursue your degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology, you鈥檒l attain skills that develop your ability to analyze systems, to follow laboratory best practices, and to design/develop systems that solve problems posed by today鈥檚 technology-based society.
In your first two-years, you鈥檒l be taking courses that give you a broad overview of the laboratory work in mathematics and physical sciences. The skills picked up in these courses will see you through the more rigorous courses offered in your remaining two years of study. Our department offers courses dealing in such diverse topics as programming in Java, hands-on problem鈥搒olving using MATLAB, and VHDL, using and studying a variety of electrical and electronics applications, and applying the skills you鈥檝e learned to embedded system design. Most courses integrate laboratory work in their curriculum, thereby ensuring an education in down-to-earth, practical problem-solving. While some projects we assign will help you gain self-reliance, other projects will help you develop crucial team working skills. In your senior year, you鈥檒l be required to complete a complex and challenging technology project as the capstone course toward attaining your BS degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology.
We鈥檙e proud to report that our graduates have found gainful employment in industry and government agencies and/or have gone on to pursue graduate studies in related programs. Having met (and continuing to meet) the requirements for electrical and computer engineering technology, our program in New York City has been accredited and continues to be accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
