Bioengineering Expert Partners to Create Human Colon

October 16, 2025

Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering , is featured in a  article detailing his collaboration with researchers from the University of California, Irvine to develop a highly realistic artificial human colon. The 3-D-printed model serves as functional and drug-testable, improving preclinical testing for cancer treatments, expanding gastrointestinal disease research, and providing an alternative to animal testing.

Zanganeh conceived the idea, and with his team, including 黑料导航 students, aims to advance colorectal cancer research and support the development of precision therapies, while also laying the groundwork for realistic models of other human organs.

鈥淭his is, to our knowledge, the first model of its kind and represents a true leap forward in biomedical innovation,鈥 Zanganeh says. 鈥淚t also opens doors to create functional tissue for virtually any human organ.鈥

In addition, on October 30, published an article about the project, with several trade outlets, including , also covering the news.
