Claude Gagna
College of Arts and SciencesClaude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, wrote a letter to the editor of the American Chemical Society's Chemical & Engineering News. The letter, was published on October 27, 2024. Gagna responded to an important article written on how double-stranded DNA could replace silicon chips in the future; he suggested that researchers need to think beyond the canonical, traditional Watson-Crick right-handed double-stranded B-DNA, to take advantage of other DNA structures.
\nEvan Shieh
School of Architecture and DesignEvan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, published his book聽聽with the publisher Applied Research + Design (AR+D), an imprint of ORO Editions. A culmination of several years of research, the 480-page, two-volume, research and design monograph explores the latent and transformative impact autonomous vehicles will have on cities' urban and spatial future. The book was launched as a public lecture at the School of Architecture and Design on October 23, 2024, as part of its 2024 Fall Lecture + Events series "Worlds Un/Designed".

The article addresses various issues related to publishing peer-reviewed journal articles by academics, researchers, editors, and journals.
Evan Shieh
School of Architecture and DesignEvan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, and Farzana Gandhi, M.Arch., associate professor of architecture, gave a joint lecture at the 2024 , which was held across a three-day event, October 17 鈥� 19, 2024. Shieh and Gandhi spoke on Day 3 of the Biennale around the theme of "Technology," speaking on the role of technology in their recent research and practice, and the common ground and values that overlap between their work in different topical contexts.
Evan Shieh
School of Architecture and DesignEvan Shieh, M.AUD., assistant professor of architecture, received the at the inaugural gala of the Stretto Youth Chamber Orchestra, held at the Watershed Institute on October 19, 2024. A 2003鈥�2007 alumnus, Shieh was a violin concertmaster, soloist, and assistant conductor with Stretto. The award recognizes alumni for embodying the organization's mission in their achievements and sharing those values with others in the community.

School of Architecture and DesignDongsei Kim, M.Des., associate professor of architecture, was invited to present his paper, 鈥淎rchitecture at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): Speculative Architectural Methods as Imagining New Cosmopolitan Polities,鈥� at , the third annual Korean Studies Symposium at the University at Buffalo, on October 18, 2024.
Wenyao Hu
School of ManagementWenyao Hu, Ph.D., CFA, assistant professor of accounting and finance at the School of Management, authored an article titled published October 18, 2024, in Finance Research Letters, an ABDC A-level journal. This study investigates the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) incidents on the banking and financial industries and finds that firms with AI incidents face higher bankruptcy risks and lower operational cash flows.
Wenyao Hu
School of ManagementWenyao Hu, Ph.D., CFA, , assistant professor of accounting and finance at the School of Management, presented "The Power of Language: Does Vocabulary Richness Provide Value to Investors?" at the (FMA) Annual Meeting held in Grapevine, Texas, October 16 鈥� 19, 2024. Hu introduced a new linguistic feature into the business context鈥攙ocabulary richness鈥攚hich measures the range of vocabulary used by executives during earnings conference calls. His findings suggest that high vocabulary richness significantly enhances the initial market reaction by helping market participants better understand the conveyed information.

Department of Computer ScienceGeorge M. Salayka, M.S.,, teaching assistant professor of computer science, participated as a fellow in the Engineering Unleashed Faculty Development (EUFD) National Workshop program on October 15, 2024, creating resources that will help them and intercollegiate colleagues advance the community's mission to integrate entrepreneurial mindset into practices that benefit their students, their institutions, and greater society.
