David Nadler
College of Engineering and Computing SciencesDavid Nadler, Ph.D., assistant professor and chair of the Department of Environmental Technology and Sustainability, joined the New York Water Environment Association's (NYWEA) Environmental Science Committee on June 14, 2018. The committee promotes environmental science programs and activities at NYWEA Annual and Spring technical conferences; provides a mechanism for interaction between scientists and engineers through the coordination of specific environmental science activities, (e.g. tours, workshops, etc.); and works with regional chapters to provide programs that serve the environmental science sector.

School of Engineering & Computing Sciences Environmental Technology & SustainabilityDavid Nadler, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Environmental Technology and Sustainability, received his Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential from the on June 13, 2018. Envision is a groundbreaking resource for professionals involved in planning, designing, building, and maintaining civil infrastructure. As a rating system for sustainable infrastructure, Envision is supported by a wide array of respected organizations involved in infrastructure design, construction, and operation.

School of Architecture & Design ArchitectureDongsei Kim, M.Des., assistant professor of architecture, delivered a lecture, on June 11, 2018 at Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), as part of their Urban Design Lecture series.
Milan Toma
School of Engineering & Computing Sciences Mechanical EngineeringMilan Toma, Ph.D., assistant professor of mechanical engineering, secured a donation of $15,000 from the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association on June 7, 2018, for his study on concussion and helmet safety. Toma's study, "The Computational Assessment of Helmets and Concussion," will collect data on jockey head protection through simulation testing of various helmet designs. He will be conducting the study in conjunction with Hallie Zwibel, D.O., assistant professor and director of sports medicine.
John Hanc
John Hanc, M.A., associate professor of communication arts, was honored at this year's Press Club of Long Island Media Award ceremony, held on June 7, 2018. Hanc won First Place—Humor Narrative for a column about how he and the NYC Marathon had changed since he last ran the race 30 years ago; Second Place—Lifestyle Feature Narrative for about a local Boy Scout who discovered and restored an overgrown 18th century family cemetery; and Second Place—Profile Narrative for the story of Salvatore Cillis, who recounted his war experiences in a series of illustrated letters that were displayed at the New York Historical Society. All of the articles were published in Newsday, where Hanc is a contributing writer.

Devine was recognized on June 1, 2018 for his expertise as a health professional, simulation specialist, and instructor.
