For more than 40 years, Lorraine Mongiello, a registered dietitian/nutritionist and a certified diabetes educator, has worked in public health, nutrition, and diabetes prevention and treatment. She directed the Campaign Against Diabetes at The City University of New York (CUNY), and was the director of the Diabetes Care Center at St. Charles Hospital on the North Shore of Long Island, where she established an education program serving more than 500 people each year. She has also provided medical nutrition therapy in obesity programs, nursing homes, hospitals, an early intervention program, a dialysis center, pediatric clinics, and in private practice.
Mongiello earned a Doctor of Public Health from the CUNY Graduate Center, a master’s degree in nutrition and public health from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a bachelor’s degree in food and nutrition science from Lehman College in New York City. Her current work focuses on nutrition and public health policy.
