Ehsan Kamel earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Pennsylvania State University in 2017. His primary research and teaching focus is building energy modeling (BEM) and the evaluation of energy conservation measures (ECMs) to improve building energy performance, efficiency, and decarbonization.
He is an Associate Professor of Energy Management and Director of the (EnTech Lab) at New York Institute of Technology. His research builds on BEM and building science and applies these methods to areas including urban-scale energy modeling, building decarbonization, high-performance envelopes, energy burden, and buildings in extreme environments. He also serves as Faculty Advisor to the ASHRAE ºÚÁϵ¼º½ Student Branch, supporting student engagement with the building energy and HVAC industry.
- Building Energy Modeling and Energy Conservation: Evaluation of building envelope, HVAC, electrification, and other energy-efficiency strategies.
- Urban Building Energy Modeling: Application of BEM methods at neighborhood and urban scales.
- Building Decarbonization: Assessment of building emissions under future electricity-grid decarbonization scenarios.
- Building Energy Audits and VR/AR: Exploring the use of immersive technologies to support energy audits, load calculations, and building modeling.
- Extreme-Environment Buildings: Thermal performance and envelope design for lunar and Martian buildings and habitats, including the effects of occupant metabolic heat under reduced gravity.
- Energy Burden and Indoor Environment: Study of housing energy burden and associated indoor environmental exposures in low-income housing.
- Inductive Charging: Current work on high-power inductive charging technologies, with emphasis on energy efficiency and thermal performance.
