Assistant Professor; Math, College of Arts & Sciences

Education Credentials: Ph.D.

Expertise: Applied Mathematics

Joined ºÚÁϵ¼º½: 2022

Baole Wen is an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics at New York Institute of Technology. Before joining ºÚÁϵ¼º½ in 2022, he was a postdoctoral assistant professor of mathematics at the University of Michigan and a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire in 2015.

Baole’s research spans applied and computational mathematics, with interests in fluid mechanics, mathematical modeling, scientific computing, PDE-constrained optimization, efficient numerical algorithms, and nonlinear dynamics in high-dimensional spatiotemporal systems. His current research focuses on heat and momentum transport in buoyancy-driven fluids, combining novel computational techniques with advanced matched asymptotic analysis. His work is supported by a National Science Foundation research grant.

At ºÚÁϵ¼º½, Baole is committed to integrating research into undergraduate education through a structured training pipeline connecting research-based curricula, hands-on research mentorship, and community outreach. He has developed research-integrated courses including Numerical Analysis and Mathematical Fluid Dynamics, and mentors undergraduate students in publishable research supported by his NSF and ºÚÁϵ¼º½ ISRC grants. He also co-directs the High School Mathematics Research Enrichment Program at ºÚÁϵ¼º½â€”a free, year-long initiative funded by a Dolciani Mathematics Enrichment Grant from the Mathematical Association of America—which introduces motivated high school students to original mathematical research.
